Description

This course introduces some key Lean tools and practices used in day-to-day management of municipal organizations. It provides an overview of PDCA, A3, and root cause analysis as a structured improvement method in implementing change, solving problems, and continuously improving processes in the municipal sector. 

Gemba and waste walking are also introduced as a method for the identification of waste. Next, 5S, mistake proofing, visual management, and standard work are presented. 

Objectives

  • Identify components of the PDCA cycle and the function at each stage
  • Explain A3 and how it works with PDCA in a municipal environment 
  • Identify the steps in the root cause analysis process

  • Describe the three most common types of Lean improvement events

  • Define Gemba

  • Explain the three tools and techniques used to stabilize improvements
