Description

Data collection and process walking are key to your current state analysis. As a significant part of the Plan phase in your PDCA cycle, it is pertinent to understanding what is happening in the present is a significant part of the Plan phase of your PDCA cycle. Conducting a thorough current state analysis is the foundation for continuous improvement. In essence, the current state analysis creates your baseline for all improvements. Understanding how and why to collect data, and how to analyze the data, will enable you to keep track of your metrics. Course 2 covered setting targets using quantifiable objectives or SMART goals. This is how we collect data that enables us to use quantifiable metrics and measures for our processes.

Objectives

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. describe Gemba;
  2. determine what information is necessary to gather and how to analyze that information through a Lean lens;
  3. describe the considerations of data collection and the components of a data collection plan;
  4. plan and facilitate a Gemba process waste walk;
  5. describe process mapping and identify the icons on a process map;
  6. create a process map;
  7. describe and calculate lead time, cycle time, opportunity time, and value-added and non value- added time; and
  8. describe the ways in which data can be explained and represented.
